Choose your career wisely.

So it has been a week now after I finished my practical. There were fun and there were boring throughout it. A life time experience it has been to be given a chance to work there even in 10 weeks time. A lot of things I have learned and a lot of friends I have met. Surely the memory will stick forever.

So as my practical ended I’m officially contributes to Malaysia high rise unemployment rate. I have been a week unemployed as the company I was training for practical won’t hire anymore geologist for now. So I’m in search for my first job throughout this day. To tell you the truth my friends, it wasn’t easy. I have been searching for job ever since 3 weeks ago. Using all the search engine available and newspapers there is and only two company offer for geologist right now. In correction actually there were many jobs for geologist but then a stupid set up requirement such as 10 years experience really is a pain in the ass. So I take my chances applied for those 2 companies and still waiting for their reply.

In my second week of practical I do applied for job then, about 4 of it. I was called to attend for interview by two of those companies. The first one went smooth but then the second one was disaster. My English were terrible. There were quite a times I was pausing. They blasted me with unpredictable geology question. I wasn’t prepared at all back then. No time for revision and even to check out their company background. They gave me such a short notice to come for that interview. I were to afraid to asked my manager for a leave because the day before I already went for the first interview with differ company so I sneaked out quietly for that interview. I arrived there just in time with sweat all over my body chasing time, with only 1 hour and a half to travel from my office at KL to Shah Alam. The results were disappointed as I have been decline from both jobs. Afterwards I decided not to apply any job as it is hard to arrange interview while you are busy with your training. I don’t want to sacrifice my 3 credit hour just for something that was uncertain.

So here are those day again where you need to look for job. An advice from my manager while in practical, he told me to be sure on which path I want to choose. Pick it wisely, so that one day you won’t regret it choosing it. For an example if you started with a mining company and have been working there for 3 years and then one day you want to change track to oil and gas, it won’t be that easily. Applying for those jobs, your position will be as same as other fresh graduate to challenge that vacancy. So my boss said “Choose wisely”.

So if you are a geologist there were three main paths for you. 1st which is mining, 2nd is construction, and 3rd is oil and gas. Yes oil and gas could offer you with big bucks but to challenge for a job in this path won’t be that easily. However, yet there were the one who offers a lot of vacancies. My career path without no doubt I’ll choose oil and gas. So offshore here I come.
